Written in 1886 by William Skene, and reissued as a 2nd annotated edition in 1902, this digitised copy is a facsimilie of the 2nd edition. The full title of this book is "The Highlanders of Scotland: Their Origin, History, and Antiquities; with a Sketch of Their Manners and Customs, and an Account of the Clans into which They Were Divided, and of the State of Society which Existed Among Them".

William Skene was one of the most distinguished and influential of the 19th century historians who first looked at the people and culture of the Highlands of Scotland and sought not only to record but also to analyse and understand that culture. He was the author of numerous books on Scotland. This revised edition of his 'Highlanders' contains extensive notes, bringing the text up to date, pointing out errors, and generally making it more in line with scholarship in the early 20th century.

Scanned images of the whole of the original book, bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.
