Within 15 minutes of searching I found that a great uncle had run foul of the law at Yeppoon and Rockhampton. Considering that he was 17 years old it would have been safe to assume that he was still at home with his parents in Charters Towers. It just goes to show that there is always more to find out. A great Aunt had been raped when she was 14 years old. I was able to read the court case in the newspapers on Trove but there was no indication as to the sentence the young man received. The Police Gazettes tel me that the young man was sentenced to 3 years hard labour in Stuart Creek prison, Townsville. Just for these two bits of information the purchase has been justified.
