This classic study of the Hebridean islands off the western coast of Scotland consists of three parts. The first is a short historical sketch of the region, with emphasis upon the Celtic, Norse, and more recent periods, and providing a readable and understandable history of the people who shaped the course of events in the islands.
The second and longer section, entitled "Traditions of the Western Isles," by John Morrison, studies the eternal conflicts within the islands and the clans who pursued those conflicts: the MacLeods and Macaulays in particular. The third section studies the place-names of the islands and their origin and meaning. For families who originated in these islands, this is an essential work.

This CD consists of scans of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
