'The War in Pictures' (The Sun News-Pictorial, Melbourne) covers the six years of World War II in pictures - and it is predominately that - pictures of all theatres of the war with accompanying descriptions. There are photographs and maps - at sea, in the air, in Warsaw, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Norway, Egypt, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Flanders, Dunkirk, Paris, Munich, Italy, Burma, South-West Pacific and so many more.

Two images showing the Australian troops in June 1940 are captioned:

AUSTRALIAN TROOPS DISEMBARK
Towards the end of June the first considerable contingents of troops from Australia and New Zealand landed in Great Britain to prepare for active service by a period of intensive training in the Homeland. They came by way of Capetown in liners, escorted by a powerful convoy of ships of the British, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian Navies, which secured for them a completely uneventful voyage. Commanded respectively by Major-General Wynter, who served with the Anzacs of 1914-18, and Major-General Freyberg, V.C., hero of the Gallipoli landings of 1915, these magnificent troops of perfect physique and morale, including a batallion of Maoris and a detachment of the New Zealand R.N.V.R., were welcomed by a message from the King. The pictures show: left, Australians listening to their band on the quay immediately after disembarking at a Scottish port; right: more "Diggers" on a few says' leave in London, arriving at their temporary social headquarters, at the Strand Theatre, Aldwych, for pay-pay parade.
