This is primarily a history of the Scottish family of Inglis of Auchindinny and Redhall and it touches on the great historical events of the day only as the participants interact with those powerful individuals or events. The work begins with an account of the early history of the family, but the main focus is more on the period after 1600 than before.

There is an account of Auchindinny, so strongly and continually associated with the Inglis family and with the members who held it over the centuries. There are chapters on John Inglis of Philadelphia and the American branch of the family before turning to Redhall and the Inglises of Redhall. Vice-Admiral John Inglis is of particular interest and importance to the family. There are as well chapters on the Nisbets of Carphin, the Philps of Greenlaw, and the Lyles of Stanypeth and Basendean.

Included are pedigrees of Inglis, Otterburne and Hamilton of Redhall, and Nisbet of Carphin.

Written by John Alexander Inglis, and published 1914, this book has now been re-released on CD-ROM, and contains high quality scanned images of the whole of the original book. This CD has been bookmarked for easy navigation, and pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
