London, the capital city of England, is the largest city and the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom. Having hundreds and hundreds of years of history, and with such a large population, many family researchers and historians will come across at least one ancestor or person of interest who came from or was connected to London at some time in the past.

If you are currently researching your family history and have relatives and ancestors from London, this Compendium is for you! The titles included in this compendium are perfect for you if you want to find out where your ancestors lived and what they did, if they were married in London between 1521 and 1869, and if you had a criminal ancestor.

Chronicles of Crime Volumes 1&2
Newgate was a prison in London, at the corner of Newgate Street and Old Bailey, just inside the city of London. It was extended and rebuilt many times, and remained in use for over 700 years, from 1188 to 1902.
Chronicles of Crime or The New Newgate Calendar is a record of the more notorious criminals confined at Newgate. It was first published in 1773, and had continued over the years with numerous compilers. In 1886, Camden Pelham published this two volume set which contains "a series of memoirs and anecdotes of notorious characters who have outraged the laws of Great Britain from the earliest period to the present time". Listing the details of both the people and cases, you will find men and women who have been caught being coiners, extortioners, forgers, fraudulent bankrupts, footpads, highwaymen, housebreakers, incendiaries, impostors, murderers, mutineers, money-droppers, pirates, pickpockets, rioters, sharpers, traitors, and much more.

London Marriage Licences 1521-1869
This CD is based on the transcriptions of Colonel Chester who saved these entries from obscurity when he discovered a huge number of un-indexed marriage records in Latin. This work was then published by Joseph Foster in alphabetical order in 1887. It contains over 1,500 pages of entries. The record of these marriages often eludes those tracing a family name because the marriages were scattered geographically.
This document gives details of Marriages from the following sources: Bishop of London's Office 1521 to 1828, Dean and Chapter of Westminster's Office 1599 to 1699, Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury 1543 to 1869, Vicar-General's Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury 1660 to 1679.
With over 850 pages of marriages that occurred in London between 1521-1869, this is a vast resource for those researching family in this place.
