Lauriston Castle and the estate which surrounded it was neither one of the largest nor one of the wealthiest properties near Edinburgh, but it was made famous by John Law of Lauriston, who in the early 18th century was the most famous financier and entrepreneur in Britain or in France. The small estate of Lauriston was situated in the ancient Midlothian parish of Cramond in what is now the city of Edinburgh. Its early history was associated with the ancient family of Forrester of Corstorphine, then with the equally illustrious family of Napier, and next with the Dalgliesh family. But in the 17th century it was bought by the Law family who had made their fortune as goldsmiths in Edinburgh, and this family retained ownership of the property until the early 19th century. In that century it passed through numerous hands before being bought by the Reid family. The castle itself was altered numerous times over the centuries and its historical value was not in its architectural purity but in the men and women who made it home for so many centuries.
The major families associated with the castle over its long history include: Forrester, Law, Allan, Napier, Cant, Dalgleish, Rutherfurd, Craigie, Crawford, and Reid.

Was very interesting to read, comes in pdf format. Gives good information behind all the owners of the castle and very in depth genealogies of the families as well which is what I was interested in, especially the LAW family. Good Bio and References that you can refer to for comparison, some of those reference books are now available to download for free via the internet (been digitized via the libraries) so that you can compared the various versions and stories told.
