In this 357 page book written by John Mackintosh and published in 1898, he presents the history of some six Scottish earldoms from their inception either to their forfeiture through insurrection or death or into the 19th century.

The Earldom of Mar is the first traced through the centuries, with particular reference to the Erskine family. This is followed by a history of the Earldom of Buchan and its association with the Comyn, Balliol, Stewart, and Douglas families; the Earldom of Huntly and the Gordons, including the Gordons of Aboyne; the Earldom of Erroll and the Hay and Boyd families; the Earls Marishal and the Keiths; and the Earldom of Findlater and Seafield and the Ogilvie and Grant families.

Each earldom and the families who held it are discussed in detail and traced through the centuries. Most of these families and the titles they held survived for many centuries, and their histories therefore are intertwined with that of Scotland itself. In addition there is material on allied families, including Durward, Douglas, Seton, Boyd, Grant, Cheyne, Drummond, Innes, Irvine, and Leslie.

This CD consists of scans of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
