This publication was compiled to encourage family and local historians to delve deeper into primary sources to uncover the story of their ancestors or the communities in which they lived. Using archive catalogues can be daunting and often hard to locate a record due to transcription errors as well as name variations.

This publication contains death and burial resources and records within towns and regions of Western Australia, held within Archives, Libraries, Genealogical Societies and on the Internet.

The records have been categorised by location for easy reference. The first section contains information relating to essential resources when looking for death or burial records in Western Australia. The next section gives researchers information on primary sources on localities with the state.

The third section is on Western Australia as a whole and gives general research areas which have not been indexed by location, or will hold information across the whole of the state.

There is also a section for 'outsiders', those who have come from interstate or overseas and died in Western Australia.

The final section is in-depth information on which organisation has recorded the record and the history behind that record/series, as well as giving address and contact details for the repositories which have been included in this publication.

Note: some localities have very few resources and as such have been placed within the defined regions of Western Australia: Gascoyne, Goldfields-Esperance, Great Southern, Kimberley, Midwest, Perth, Peel, Pilbara and South West.

Please Note: this is NOT a listing of all deaths (with names) that occurred in Western Australia, but rather a town-by-town listing, of death-related sources that are available, and where you can find them.
