Written by Albert E. Gurley in 1897, this 301 page book contains a genealogical and historical account of the Scottish Gurley or Gourlay family. It begins with a discussion of the origin of the progenitor, who seemingly was from Normandy and who enjoyed a close alliance with King William the Lion of Scotland. That Scottish monarch granted lands in Kincraig in Fifeshire for feudal military assistance.

This first section is a reprint of Memorials of the Scottish House of Gourlay, by the Rev. Charles Rogers (originally published 1888). The larger work also contains the history and genealogy as well of William Gurley, who settled in Northampton, Massachusetts; a William Gurley born in Wexford, Ireland around 1757; Capt. Benjamin Gurley of Boston, Massachusetts; and Joseph and John Gurley, who settled in Virginia around 1760. In total, it is a thorough study of this family in both the Scottish and the American setting.

This CD consists of scans of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable
