From the genteel English countryside of Oxfordshire to the harsh Limestone Plains and the rolling Tidbinbilla and Brindabella Ranges comes the story of one of the Canberra region's early pioneers and his descendants. This is the story of George Solomon Webb, convicted of stealing two sheep in 1816 and banished to the penal colony of New South Wales, and, who, on gaining his freedom settled west of the Murrumbidgee River in the area now known as Tidbinbilla.

It is the story of how a pioneering family adapted to the harsh conditions, so different to everything they knew. It is the story of how a lifestyle and a community was carved out from the virgin countryside. It is the story of Webb's descendants and of other settlers coming to the Canberra region, of young people marrying, producing families and transforming a primitive environment into the interland of our nation's capital as we know it today.

The book not only contains a very detailed family history, but it also provides a wealth of information on other pioneering families in the district. For the historian there is an abundance of information on the history on Uriarra, west of Canberra. It is well illustrated with black and white photographs and maps, and not to mention family trees.
