The American Revolution divided families and communities throughout the colonies, with settlers joining either the revolutionists or adhering to the cause of the old government and the king. Many Scots-Americans joined the provincial loyalist regiments which are here described in terms of their origin and service, and the roll of officers includes within it many settlers who fought for the king and resettled in Canada. Some of these later returned to the new nation, while others established families whom have remained in Canada to this day.
The alphabetical list of officers is extensive and includes officers in all the major provincial regiments.
