This collection of all available indexes to Tasmanian Police Gazettes (1861-1933) contains approximately 160,000 names

Police Gazettes are an unrivalled source of information on police, criminals and victims of crime. Though for a long time they have been inaccessible to the public, you can now find the physical details on persons listed; missing, wanted or released. This all helps to paint a picture of them (name, aliases used, age, height, colour hair, colour eyes, distinguishing features, even colour clothing worn).

As the records are very extensive it is not easy to determine which gazette may contain information on your ancestor. Once you have found person of interest you can order and follow up the full details up in the actual gazette for that year.

This product contains high quality scanned images of the original indexes, and has been bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.

I received this EBook as a free download from the digital archives Aust. Not knowing what I was about to read was a what have we here. On reading through it I found that there where thousands of names indexed of everything possible to do with Policing of crimes. It would very handy for someone who had ancestors in Tasmania between those times, but that would be all that would help as one would then have to get hold of the complete set of Gazettes to accomplish their search or go and search on TROVE with that info. Other than that it was just another interesting reading search that I will save in my Tasmanian folder.
