The town of Gympie is located in south eastern Queensland, and was originally settled for grazing purposes, but in 1867 the area became prominent when James Nash discovered gold. At the time Queensland was suffering from a severe economic depression and the discovery probably saved the colony from bankruptcy.

This souvenir book was produced to celebrate the town's Diamond Jubilee in 1927, and details the history of the town, starting with the early history and the 'momentous discovery' of gold. This is followed by information on the schools, churches, societies, sports clubs, Gympie's mayors, as well as other locals who played a part in Queensland's political scene. This book also includes information on the mining and agricultural pioneers, as well as many advertisements from local businesses, and numerous photographs of Gympie throughout this period.

This is a valuable record for those with an interest in not only the early pioneers of this Queensland town, but also for those whose interest is social and economic history.

High quality scanned images of the whole of the original book. This CD has been bookmarked for easy navigation, and pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.
