By the early 20th century, there was a need for more up-to-date county histories, and this volume was designed to cover two smaller Scottish counties, and to provide maps, diagrams, and other information.
Clackmannanshire and Kinross-shire here are separately presented, with a short history of the county followed by its statistics as to size and boundaries, geology, rivers and natural history, agriculture, architecture, administration, and important towns. There are dozens of illustrations for each county, as well as details of prominent sites and individuals.
