Description

This CD contains the 178 pages from 'The Scots Peerage', written by Sir James Balfour-Paul, that related to the Campbell family.

Presented here are the genealogical and historical records of all branches of the Campbell family holding titles of nobility. Included are:

  • Duke of Argyll
  • Earl of Atholl
  • Earl and Marquess of Breadalbane
  • Earl of Irvine
  • Earl of Loudon

The senior branch of Argyll traces its lineage back to Cailean Mór, from whom the Chief gets his patronymic of MacCailean Mór. This Colin was slain at Ath-Dearg in Lorn in 1294.  After the House of Argyll, the leading family are the Campbells of Breadalbane, whose ancestor was Black Colin of Glenorchy, second son of Sir Duncan Campbell, Knight of Lochow, 1st Lord Campbell, by his wife, Lady Marjory Stewart. Hence the patronymic of the House of Breadalbane — Mac-Chailein-Mhic-Dhonnachaidh (son of Colin son of Duncan).

This CD consists of scans from the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
