Written to celebrate the centenary of German settlement in Queensland in 1938, Theile examines the history of the church, the life and customs of the church and its various activities.

Included are biographies of the pastors of the United German and Scandinavian Synod (1885-1921), the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (1885-1921) and pastors after 1921 when amalgamation occurred. One section is devoted to each of the parishes with a brief history for each – at Alberton, Beenleigh, Bethania, Brisbane North, Brisbane South, Bundaberg, Douglas, Dugandan, Engelsburg, Goombungee, Hatton Vale, Highfields, Ipswich, Kingaroy, Lowood, Mackay, Maryborough, Murgon, Nundah, Toowoomba (Hume Street and Phillip Street), and the Home Mission Centres.

Pastor C. F. A. Schirmeister: He came from Germany, where he had followed academic studies, and where he was ordained as a pastor of the State Church of Prussia. Pastor Gossner, of Berlin, sent him as leader of a missionary party to the Chatham Islands in the year 1847. Ten years later, 1857, he came to Sydney and Rev. Dr. John Dunmore Lang sent him to Queensland, where he began to work among the German settlers, ...
