Electoral rolls are the nearest thing Australians have to census records, and hence they are extremely important and useful for local, family and social historians.
This CD includes the rolls for the Canning, Curtin, Fremantle, Forrest, Kalgoorlie, Moore, Perth and Swan Divisions of Western Australia in 1949 more than 5,000 pages. Entries are arranged alphabetically within each subdivision. You will find the details of over 300,000 voters who resided in Western Australia at this time, and who were entitled (and registered) to vote. Importantly, the roll includes the names of many women qualified to vote for the election of members of the Commonwealth parliament.
The electoral subdivisions for each of the divisions are:
- Canning - Beverley, Canning, Murray, Wellington, Williams and York
- Curtin - Leederville, Mt Hawthorn, Nedlands and Subiaco
- Fremantle - Claremont, East Fremantle, Fremantle, North Fremantle, South Fremantle and Wembley Park
- Forrest - Albany, Bunbury, Collie, Forrest, Katanning, Nelson, and Sussex
- Kalgoorlie - Boulder, Brown Hill, Dundas, Gascoyne, Geraldton, Greenough, Hannans, Kalgoorlie, Kanowna, Kimberley, Mt Leonora, Mt Magnet, Mt Margaret, Murchison and Pilbara
- Moore - Balcatta, Irwin, Moore, Northam, Toodyay, Swan and Yilgarn
- Perth - East Perth, Maylands, North Perth, Perth and West Perth
- Swan - Bayswater, Belmont, Guildford, South Perth and Victoria Park
Maps of many of the subdivisions are included on the CD.
The following information is included for many (but not all) entries:
