This book by the Rev. John M. McElroy begins with a discussion of the McElroys in Scotland and Ireland, this primarily is an account of their settlement in America and their expansion throughout the eastern portion of the US. There are individual chapters on branches of the family in Kentucky, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, and -- most importantly -- Pennsylvania. Of particular interest to anyone researching this family is the collection of nearly 30 family portraits, from the advent of photography to the time of publication. This work is a true measure of what the "family genealogist" can accomplish; it is a wonderful repository of family information on primary and related lines.
