Taken from 'Archaeological and Historical Collections Relating to the Countries of Ayr and Wigton' Volume 3, which was written in 1882, the 115 pages of papers and documents record the rise of the Boyd family from the 15th century to the late 16th century and the reign of James VI. At the time of the attainder of the last Earl of Kilmarnock after the rebellion of 1745, these family papers were deposited in the office of the town clerks of Kilmarnock.

They were in part published by the Abbotsford Club, but this is the first and most complete presentation of papers that relate most directly to Kilmarnock Castle and to the family's involvement with that fortification.

The second part of these papers presents charters and other documents broadly relating to the Boyd family, to their rights and possessions, and to their relationship to the monarchs of their time.

This CD consists of scans of the original books, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
