First published in 1862, this work has been revised by the author, who has enlarged his history and substantially rearranged the materials within it. This is in essence a local history dealing with a region in Fife which encompasses Leven, Kellie, Pittenweem, Anstruther, and Kilrenny. Wood begins with a survey of the history of the region, including within each locality those families which later defined it. As the author moves through the region, he examines the families settled there: Lumden, Seton, Balfour, Wood, etc. There is much family history included here relating to this particular region of Fife.
