An unusual source of historical information, but no less important is Education Gazettes'. For anyone with either connections to the Education Department,
or just an interest in its history, this is a vast collection.
Gazettes are published by governments and their agencies as a means of
communication to officials and the general public. As such they are useful, not
only to monitor the actions of the government, but also as far as family
historians are concerned, they are valuable primary source documents.
Containing all issues that were issued during the 1899-1905 period (generally one a month),
these Education Gazettes contain the names, teaching level and school of
thousands of teachers throughout Queensland during this time frame.
Listing Admissions, Admissions Cancelled, Transfers, Transfers Cancelled,
Notifications of Vacancies, those that Left the Service, Schools Opened, Schools
Closed, as well as Scholarships Granted. There is a long list of those who have
had Grade Promotions together with their previous teaching level, as well as the
new one. There are literally thousands of names of people mentioned in these
Gazettes. This CD is a compilation of 7 years worth of these Gazettes from 1899-1905. Each year is also available individually:
