The Genealogical Society of Victoria was established in 1941 and incorporated in 1946. This set of CDs includes bulletins and journals from 1948 through to 2011 - a fantastic record of the society during that time.

The early 'New Bulletins' records office bearers, social events, reunions, and lots of advice to assist with research in an envorionment very different to what we know today. Issues for three years of the 'Victorian Genealogist' are also included for 1955, 1961 and 1962. Similar materials to that in the newsletters is provided here with the addition of some pioneer and royal lineages.

Issues of the 'Ancestor' journal from 1962 right through to December 2011 complete the set. Many family histories, advice the Victories Registry of BDMs, library additions, members' queries, and much more kept those with an interest in genealogical research well informed. It is interesting to watch the development of computer and online options for resarch unfold through the passing years.

This product contains high quality images of the original 'New Bulletins' and journals. It has been bookmarked for eacy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.

As most of my ancestors arrived and settled in Queensland, I had avoided using any genealogical/family history societies other than Queensland ones. Silly me. Genealogical Society of Victoria must be one of the oldest such societies in Australia and this collection includes several searchable CDs of both their News Bulletin and their Journal, Ancestor from as early as 1948. Stories about ancestors from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales can be found here as well as other European countries. A lot of early Australian history is contained here, too, which helps put our ancestors into context. This has been a great investment.
