Reverend John Mill was Minister of the Parishes of Dunrossness, Sandwick and Cunningsburgh in Shetland 1740-803. This diary written by Rev. John Mill is primarily of interest for local Shetland matters, but it also contains a vivid account of domestic matters and church life during the second half of the 18th century. It contains particulars relating to the organization and regulation of the church, Sinclair estates, trade and commerce, the General Assembly, Dunnottar Castle, the American Revolution, and a wide range of domestic and foreign affairs.
