  • deserting wives, families, etc

  • deserting from merchant vessels
  • inquests
  • missing friends
  • murderers and their victims
  • police resignations
  • prisoners discharged from gaols and released on tickets of leave
  • property and stock recovered
  • rewards—names of persons offering a reward
  • victims of arson
  • victims of horse and cattle stealing or straying
  • victims of lost or stolen property
  • victims of sheep stealing or straying

Example entry taken from the 13 January 1882 issue:

About 2 a.m. on the 9th instant a dwelling-house and store situate at Thomas's Plains, the property of Messrs. Brown and Inglis, was maliciously set on fire by some person or persons at present unknown and destroyed; the house was unoccupied at the time and the only property in contained was some toys and wooden matches value about £3 10s. Messrs. Brown and Inglis offer the above reward for such information as will lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the above offence.
