Robert Renwick wrote and published this work in 1903, which is a history of the town and parish of Peebles in the shire of that name, which is surrounded by Lanark, Dumfries, Selkirk, and Midlothian.
The town of Peebles was the most important urban center in the country, and this history details the affairs of the town and of the parish it occupies, as well as the lives of those who played an important role in it.
The following families are all featured in some detail: Brown, Cunningham, Dickson, Edderstone, Elphinstone, Geddes, Gladstone, Govan, Hay, Horsburgh, Lander, Lawedre, Mowat, Paterson, Peebles, Pringle, Pringell, Tweedie, and Williamson.
