He paints a vivid and impressive picture of the Borders and includes chapters on geography, social and economic conditions, religion, the Wardens, Border warfare, international Border law, both English and Scottish domestic Border law, as well as a chronological history of the Borders during the last years before the Union of the Crowns in 1603.
