Written by William P. Boyd, and published in 1912, this is a 470 page book of
the history of the Boyd family.
The complete title of this book provides valuable information as to the scope
of the author's work. It reads:
"History of the Boyd Family and Descendants
with Historical Sketches of the Ancient Family of Boyd in Scotland from the
year 1200, and those of Ireland from the year 1680, with Records of their
Descendants in Kent, New Windsor, Albany, Middletown and Salem, New York;
Boston, Mass; Northumberland County, Pa., and Sketches of Those from the
Southern and Western States from 1740 to 1912"
The first part of this extensive history is devoted to early settlements in
Scotland; Kilmarnock, the ancient home of the Boyds; the history of the Boyds in Ireland; and the Boyds in America. The second and larger part of this history is directed at the Boyds who settled in North America and for whom
extensive genealogical information is provided. Overall it is a solid and
thorough study of this family, with primary emphasis upon the settlements in the
United States.
