In this, the last book in the HMAS series, serving personnel have again recorded stories of the battles, experiences and achievements of the RAN during the war. At last the veil of anonymity that has cloaked the contributors has been lifted and the final pages of this book record a full list of pseudonyms and names of those who contributed to the HMAS series.

Sixty-five tales tell of experiences in Borneo, Brunei, the Philippines, Balikpapan, and Leyte; there are photographs and sketches of the ships Shropshire, Arunta, Nepal, Unicorn, and Australia .. of places including Colombo, Lingayen Gulf, Sydney, and Japan .. and people.

SAMPLE ENTRIES:

On clearing Humboldt Bay we were told that the convoy was bound for Leyte. There were a number of landing ships, and we had an anti-submarine escort of a few U.S.N. destroyers. Our senior officer was Rear-Admiral Struble in the amphibious flagship Mount McKinley, and his second-in-command was Captain Jenkins, U.S.N., in the U.S.S. Crescent City. Rear-Admiral Struble had commanded us in the first assault on Leyte nineteen days earlier.

Awards made to Australian Naval Personnel since 1 October 1945 are listed along with the rank or rating of each recipient at the date of the award and a brief description of the service leading to it. A number of American awards and decorations to RAN personnel are also detailed.

Distinguished Service Cross
