Apart from a descriptive account and statistical information for New Zealand and each of the Australian colonies and their towns, you will also find details on climate, education, religion, agriculture, population, societies and clubs, parliamentary and official departments, local self-government, telegraphic and postal details, police, banking, shipping, mining and land regulations, newspaper, manufacturers, emigration, as well as naval and military forces. You will also find details of the governors, consuls and ecclesiastical appointments of the time.

SAMPLE ENTRY:

EUCLA, 31° 43' 27" S. lat., 128° 52' 44" E. long., a township and telegraph station on the border. It is the terminus of the West Australian line and the connecting point with the South Australian telegraph system. A substantial building has been erected here for the accommodation of the telegraph officials of the two colonies. Distance from Albany, 750 miles NE. Land in the vicinity is of a salt and cotton bush character, well grassed, the country being of limestone formation, with a fair depth of red friable soil. It is now being utilized for pastoral purposes. The town is about half a mile from sea-shore.

The Directory and Business Guide portion of the Handbook is a comprehensive listing of importers, exporters and shippers. For the importers and exporters it lists their name, address and what they trade (sewing machine thread, engravings and works of art, bibles and books, wicker ware, glassware and more) - exporters from England and Scotland and importers throughout Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
