BOUNDARIES OF CENSUS DISTRICTS
In the following descriptions, wherever the boundary is described as up, down, or by a river, creek, road, or street, the centre of such river, creek, road, or street shall be taken to be the boundary line; and wherever the boundary is described as by a mountain range or watershed, the line following the highest part of such range or watershed shall be taken to be the boundary.
No. 1. MELBOURNE
Commencing on the Yarra River at the Queen’s-bridge; thence by the road to Flinders-street ; easterly by that street to Elizabeth-street ; northerly by Elizabeth-street to a’Beckett street; westerly by a’Beckett-street to Queen-street; northerly by Queen-street to the southern boundary of the Old Cemetery; west by that boundary to William-street ; northerly by William street to Dudley-street; westerly by Dudley-street to King-street; northerly by King-street to Rosslyn-street ; westerly by Rosslyn street to the eastern fence of the railway yard; southerly by that fence to Dudley-street Bridge; south-westerly by Dudley street extension to the Yarra River; and by that river to the commencing point.
