Government Gazettes are a massive source of fascinating information, both historical and genealogical. However they are largely an untapped resource, until more recently when Archive CD Books Australia started making them available on CD-ROM (and as a bonus ... searchable).
The Government Gazettes were weekly newspapers (although there were extra issues produced as well), and this CD contains all issues that were released for the year 1860.
The Victorian Government Gazette provides official notification of decisions or actions taken by, or information from, the Governor of Victoria, Government Authorities, Government Departments, Local Councils, companies and individuals.
So just what information will you find in a Victorian Government Gazette? As well as government notices, public works notices, land sales, tenders notices, and mining by-laws, you will find information on stock impound listings, court notices, police sales, unclaimed letters lists, patent applications, dissolution of business partnerships, private advertisements (many of which include lost or stolen property with rewards) and more. So in this huge 2 volume set, consisting of over 2500 pages - you will no doubt find something of interest, as well as hopefully information on an ancestor or two.
Originally produced by Archive CD Books Australia in 2006, this title has now been remastered and re-released, and includes better searching capability. This CD contains high quality scanned images of the whole of the original book, and has been bookmarked for easy navigation. Pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.
