The French newspaper le Miroir (The Mirror) covers commenced in 1910 and
continued until 1920. It then became le Miroir des Sports in mid 1920. Each
weekly issue generally consisted of 16 pages. The content is mostly superb
photographs, supplemented by editorial and extensive photo captions. Australia
and Australians are also featured.

This is a wonderful photographic record of the final year of the Great War and
its aftermath. An interesting example includes: Aumonier d' un Bataillon
d'Ecossais Canadiens, it s'entretient avec un sold at (Chaplain of a Canadian
Scottish battalion speaks with a soldier). While it focuses on the end of the
War, other topics are covered such as: le "Grand Canyon" du Colorado (the Grand
Canyon of Colorado).
Nineteen issues of 'Le Miroir Des Sports' - between June 1921 to October 1923
The contents include reports on soccer, the Olympics, boxing, athletics, rugby,
tennis, cycling, motor racing, hockey, swimming etc. Each issue is illustrated
with superb contemporary photographic images on all sports of an international,
European and French interest. Among the items included are preparation for the
1924 Paris Olympics and reports on various sports and issues in the lead up to
the games, the Tour de France (cycling), English and European soccer action, the
first inflatable bicycle tyres by Dunlop, Olympic swimmer Johnny Weissmuller -
the best in the world ( he later became Tarzan). Jack Dempsey v Georges
Carpentier ("fight of the century" - boxing), All Blacks v England at Twickenham.
In addition there are images & reports on numerous other sports including
American football & baseball at that time. A fascinating and wonderful
collection.
The newspaper is in French. Searches will have to be conducted in that language.
