Written by Thomas H. Cockburn-Hood, and published in 1888, this 451 page book
is a family history and genealogy beginning with an account of the origin of the
Cockburns and dealing first with the principal family of Cockburn of that Ilk
and Langton.
It continues with a history of the eleven Baronets of Langton, the families
of Cockburn of Ormiston, Henderland, Skirling and Cressford, Clerkington,
Choicelee, Cockburn of Cockburn, and the Cockburns of Torrie, Dalginche, and
Trettoun. The material on each of these cadet branches is both historical and
genealogical, and the whole provides a near-comprehensive history of those of
this name in Scotland over a period of well over 500 years.
