This is a genealogical and historical account of the Birnie family, primarily after they lost the estate of Burnie, and secondly, of the Hamiltons of Broomhill, to whom an earlier Mr. John Birnie allied his family. Through his marriage to a daughter of James Hamilton of Broomhill, John Birnie brought the two families together, and it is the history of these two families from the 16th century through the 1720s that is the focus of this work.
