This is an historical and genealogical account of a family found on both sides of the border between England and Scotland. Family tradition traces the name to France and to an Anglo-Norman origin. The name is said to have evolved from Lys into Yellowys and on to Yellowlees.  The first part of this study deals with Border families of this name and with west Berwickshire, Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire, and Peeblesshire. But families of this name also were settled in mid-Scotland, in Stirlingshire and Linlithgow. Overall, it is a study which traces the family’s place in Scotland from its earliest appearance as a Border reiver family into the early 20th century.

This CD consists of scans of the original book which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
