From the Preface

This book was compiled for a family reunion at Broughton in Victoria, from April 24 to 26. 1987. Because very little was known about the wider Wheaton family by our branch and generation, we wanted to include and meet them all in a reunion. 

From the outset, the idea of producing a book was discussed and it was decided to contact other branches of the Wheaton family to gauge interest. The next step was a meeting with representatives of some of the family branches, at Bordertown in South Australia, when the decision was made for a reunion at Broughton. It was also decided to publish a book, before more valuable family information was lost, to include the descendants of the eight children of Philip and Ann, from their arrival in Australia in 1848 to the present time.
