JOHN RIGGS, farmer, was born^in Dorsetshire, England, in 1814, and followed the pursuit of a farmer for many years. He came to Adelaide in 1853, and on his arrival proceeded at once to Gawler, working for a few years for Mr Duffield. He then took up land and started in farming for himself and has now upwards of 1500 acres of purchased land, 500 of which is under wheat cultivation, and the remainder used as a stud run. Mr Riggs has been Councillor for many years, and is an active member of the Wesleyan body. He received a bronze medal for high class wheat at the Grand International Exhibition in 1873 at London. Received bronze medal for a pen of 10 best crossbred ewes; a silver medal at the International Exhibition, France, in 1878, for wheat; a bronze medal for wheat at the Sydney International Exhibition of1879, and numerous other prizes all over the Colonies. He was married in 1835, and has a family of three children.
