Originally published 1847, "The Annals of Derry, Showing the Rise and Progress of the Town from the Earliest Accounts on Record to the Plantation Under King James I -- 1613, and Thence of the City of Londonderry to the Present Time", is a fascinating read.

Few places so emotionally divide the native Irish from the Protestant settlers as the city of Derry or Londonderry. This history begins with a discussion of its origin and history before the reign of Elizabeth I. The political history of the town during her reign; the principal families of Ulster, the O'Neills and O'Donnels; and the fate of the town are given consideration before the study turns to the plantations and the situation during the reign of King James VI. The history of the region and the town during the turbulent days of the civil wars of the 17th century is presented in considerable detail before turning to the Siege of the Town by the forces of King James VII and its defence by the Protestant settlers. The rebuilding of the city after 1690 and its history down to 1800 complete this extensive survey of Derry.

This CD consists of scans of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
