Written in 1894, by John Dickson this book has now been published in facsimile form on CD-ROM for the first time.
Changing family fortune as well as national events and natural occurrences all contribute to the destruction of once formidable castles and in this work, the emphasis is upon the castles of Mid-Lothian. Dickson studies five principal fortifications with each one examined in considerable detail as to its origin, evolution and family affiliations: Borthwick Castle and the Borthwick family; Craigmillar Castle and the Prestons and Gilmours; Roslin Castle and the St. Clairs; Crichtoun Castle and the Crichtoun, Ramsay and Hepburn families; and Cousland Castle and the Dalrymple family. There is extensive architectural and historical detail for each castle included here.
This CD consists of scans of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
