So you've heard of Police Gazettes ... but do you "really" know what they are? In short the Police Gazettes were weekly news reports that were distributed amongst the Police Force only. As such, they contain details and information that can not be found anywhere else.

Far from listing any changes within in 'Force' (promotions, transfers, resignations, deaths etc), you will find information on courts lists, inquest verdicts, lists of those arrested, escaped prisoners and missing persons, and listings of stolen items (as well as from whom), licences issued for secondhand dealers, collections, auctioneers and hawkers, deserters from family, deserters from service, warrants issued, prohibited immigrants and so much more ...

Police Gazettes are an underused source, partly because of their availability (you would usually only find them in select archives offices or libraries), and partly because people don't know about them. Now that Archive Digital Books Australia has released them on CD-ROM, everyone has access to this amazing resource. This CD-ROM contains all issues that were released in Queensland for the year 1922.

SAMPLE ENTRIES (from the 15 April 1922 issue):

Deserters from His Majesty's Service
Deserted from H/M/A/S. "Brisbane" at Sydney, on 15th March, 1922, Frederick John Simpson, stoker, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, hazel eyes, old appendix scar; a native of London.-1336. 4th April, 1922.

Property Lost or Stolen
C.I. Branch - Brisbane - Lost of stolen about the City, during the past four months, the property of Mrs. Sarah I. Daniel, Regatta Hotel, Toowong, one five-stone diamond and sapphire ring (2 diamonds and 3 sapphires), claw setting, rather unusual design, small portion of the ring flat at each end of setting; value £45. Identifiable.-1390. 8th April, 1922.

A vast resource of information on people and events that during 1922 (as well as some that were earlier). Often something found in a Police Gazette is either totally unknown to the researcher, as the family kept it quiet, or it can verify a family story.

High quality scanned images of the whole years worth of issues. This CD has been bookmarked for easy navigation, and pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Any computer using Adobe (Acrobat) Reader 4 or later
