This book is the story of generations of nurses, some born in the 1880s, some in the 1950s and 1960s, all who have contributed in no small way to the medical services of the nation at war. While it relates specifically to Queensland nurses, it is one for military nursing Australia-wide. When the author took on the task of writing this book for the Returned Sisters Sub-Branch of the RSL (Queensland) he was given some limitations: the story is restricted to those nurses who were born in Queensland, who were trained in Queensland hospitals, or were associated in a large measure with Queensland.

Covering the Australian Army Nursing Service (later the RAANC), as well as the RAAF Nursing Service and the RANNS. Also not forgetting those who enlisted in Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Service and with Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service.

This story includes particular reference to several hundred Queensland nurses, and while that's not all of them, locating records for every single one has proved difficult. However much information has come from diaries, letters, newspaper clippings and photographs made available from family records.
