This USB provides an index covering 75 primary sources, to people who were in what is now Queensland prior to separation from New South Wales at the end of 1859, with a scanned image of an accompanying guide and three smaller indexes to other court, land and miscellaneous records for the same period. The main index contains approximately 150,000 entries, with direct searching on name, title, year and source with QFHSdatasearch.
The Early Pioneers Index has proved an invaluable and extremely popular resource for family researchers and general historians researching in the pre-separation period, since it was initially published on microfiche with the printed guide as the Queensland Pre-separation Index in 1990. This USB makes the information much more accessible and easily organised by combining it with the searching and sorting capabilities of QFHSdatasearch.
The index entries cover a wide range of sources, including convict, administration, immigration, law, land, newspaper, hospital and personal records. Information in the index includes name, title, date, persons nationality, convict status and gender, type of record, source and reference within the source. The guide, viewable with Adobe (Acrobat) Reader, includes a history for the region as well as index details.
QFHSdatasearch is a generic interface designed to search genealogy databases and developed by the Queensland Family History Society Inc. This version features field oriented and keyword searches, Boolean selection, sorting, wildcard searches and, when applicable, links between search results and images held in pdf files of the source records.
