Government Gazettes are a unique, useful and extremely fascinating resource for local, family and social historians and researchers in other fields throughout Australia. Issued weekly with occasional special issues, the New South Wales Government Gazette contains information such as land transactions, court notices, notice of acts, tenders contracts, bankruptcies, dissolution of partnerships, police auctions of stolen property, statistics and much more ... There is a large amount of information (which include physical descriptions) relating to convicts - absconders, those who were granted ticket-of-leave, deserters, apprehensions and more.

The Government Gazettes have information covering a vast portion of the community with important details and facts on many thousands of people.
