The Historical Records of Australia Series III, published in 1921, covers despatches and papers relating to the settlement of the states. Volume 1 looks in particular at Port Phillip, Victoria 1803-1804 and Tasmania 1803 to June 1812.

The papers included look at the abortive attempt at settlement at Port Phillip 1803-1804, journals and logs of vessels employed in the settlement of Tasmania (the Lady Nelson, Ocean and Lady Barlow), the settlement at Risdon Cove 1803-1804, the settlement of southern Tasmania 1803-1812 and the settlement of northern Tasmania 1803-1812.

The reproduction of the actual material gives an invaluable insight into the lives, frustrations, triumphs and failures of the settlers and settlements. A comprehensive index allows easy access to individual events.

The Ordnance has been put on board incomplete, and of the four Iron Guns, two of them are twelve-, and the other two Six-Pounders, and these are, moreover, odd Guns.
Of the Triangle, which was sent to weigh them, one of the Legs was found entirely rotten ...
