FROM THE FOREWORD
Spalding district was first closely settled by the first farmers around 1869, and the centenary of this was recognised and celebrated by the district in 1969, when a weekend of centenary celebrations was held in October of that year. A Centenary Committee made up of local residents to arrange the event, had among its plans, to produce a book recording the events of that first one hundred years of Spalding district. Much material and research was gathered toward this end.
"From Where The Broughton Flows" will be an excellent reference for posterity of the very early years, and the first one hundred years of Spalding township. To those who have lived in or had some association with the district, this book should command pride of place on many bookshelves. The present day residents would, I feel sure, not only commend Maurice for the book, but also sincerely thank him for having accepted the challenge, and will be ever grateful for the hours and years of effort put into its production.
D. E. WILSDON, J.P., Former Chairman, District Council of Spalding.
