In 1936, when South Australia was 100 years old, Gustav Hermann Baring celebrated the State's heritage with style. Over a period of 15 months he photographed the street scenes of the City of Adelaide, as well as researching and writing the history of them and the buildings found there.  In essence Hermann Baring captured the State and its capital in pictures. For all time. His mammoth publication titled 'Progressive Adelaide - As It Stands To-day' was both a catalogue of commerce and a labour of love.

Now inspired by 'Progressive Adelaide', photographer Mick Bradley and writer Lance Campbell have followed in Hermann Baring's footsteps, by creating an updated version of his book. But not only that, they now have "then and now" comparison images of the streets of Adelaide past, next to newly taken images of the streets as they are today. It is an update on a unique book about a unique city. And is a record for all time.

This book is the ultimate coffee table book for anyone with an interest in the history in Adelaide and its architecture. Large format (it's about A3 size), it is produced as a superb high quality book, by local Adelaide printers, Wakefield Press.

Reviews:
'City Streets: Progressive Adelaide 75 Ýears On, is an extraordinary book chronicling two very distinct eras of a capital city. A totally absorbing body of work taking the reader on an engaging stroll past Adelaide’s street fronts of 75 years ago and today. It is a collector's item for anyone interested in architecture, history or urban development. It is also a unique book about a unique city. No photographic project of this scope has been attempted in Adelaide, and possibly in the world since Baring’s book in 1936.' –
