This selection begins with Traquair, home of one of the Stuart families, and continues with Branxholm and the Scotts; Cessford and Ferniehirst castles and the Kers; Smailholm Tower; Hume Castle; Neidpath Castle; Wark Castle and the Order of the Garter; Ford Castle and Berwick-on-Tweed; Harden and Newark Castle; Hermitage and legends of the Bothwells; and Roxburgh Castle; Norham Castle, Gilnockie Tower and the Armstrongs; Drumelzier Castle and the feud between the Tweedie and Veitch families; Elibank and Oakwood and the rise of  the Murray family; Bermersyde and the Haigs; Smailholm and the Pringles; Neidpath and the Hays; Ford and the Herons; and finally, Ashestiel and Scott.
