Written by George Tancred of Weens, in 1907, this 452 page work is a parish history in the monumental 19th-century tradition, including extensive historical and genealogical information on a farm-by-farm basis. Rulewater is formed by the union of the Wauchope, the Harwood, and Catlee Burns, united at the Forkins. It is in the county of Roxburgh.

The primary families included in this study are: Turnbull, Elliot, Scott of Wauchope, Armstrong, and Kerr. However, of equal importance are histories and genealogies of: Renwick, Waugh, Smith, Dalgleish, Tait, St. Clair, Cleghorn, Taylor, Barry, Usher, Rutherfurd of Wells, Laidlaw, Cumyn and Common, Simson and Simpson, Vetch and Veitch, Young, Redpath, Oliver, Glendinning, Carruthers, and Amos. The amount of material given on each of these families does vary, but in the case of all the families listed above, there is considerable historical and genealogical information provided.

The author moves through the parish, looking at each farm in turn and discussing its past and present inhabitants; he as well surveys the notable characters, eccentrics, and other historical and genealogical peculiarities of Rulewater.

This CD consists of scans of the whole of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
