Description

Viewed from the shore, Port Phillip Heads appear to afford ample room for the safe navigation of vessels proceeding to and from the ports of Melbourne and Geelong. However, more than one hundred incidents have occurred in the narrow stretch of sea, due largely to the fact that although the distance between points Lonsdale and Nepean is about two kilometres, the reef projecting from them reduce the navigable channel to about one kilometre.

Divided into various time spans to the chapters, this book mentions many of these losses together with their fate and usually a reference as to where this information was obtained from.
